CLARE, Mich. - In Central Michigan, police are now in the pastry business. That’s because a group of officers were not happy to hear their local donut shop planned to close. So they decided to buy it.
The Clare, Mich., officers now volunteer their time to keep the 113-year-old establishment running, with help from some high school and college students.
"It's a great idea," says Brian Gregory of the Clare Police Department. "Cops and donuts. Everybody talks about cops and donuts."
Al White, another Clare police officer confirms the jokes are frequent. "You hear, you know, the same old jokes … like, you guys are gonna eat up all the profit."
Well, the group of nine police officers, who live in the community, think this effort can make a difference.
"This is going to allow people to see police maybe in a different light," says Gregory. "We are part of the community. We live here, we raise our families here and … uh, yeah, we eat donuts here."
