'Mad Men' Barbies Coming Soon for $75

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - Advertising executives everywhere will no doubt be dying to get their hands on the new "Mad Men"-inspired Barbie and Ken collectors' dolls when they hit store shelves in July.

It's official, Mattel and Lionsgate announced this week that it will be releasing doll versions of the hit TV show's fabulous top four characters, including Joan Holloway, Roger Sterling, Don Draper and Betty Draper, this summer just in time to promote the fourth season.

Rather than appealing to its usual young pre-teen audience, the Barbie makers are targeting an older demographic this time around.

According to The New York Times the popular television series – that has seen three successful seasons – created by Matthew Weiner, about advertising in the '60s will be part of Mattel's Barbie Fashion Model Collection aimed at adults.

"The dolls are a realization of a fantasy, in a weird way," said Weiner, who helped get every detail just right, down to the sideburns and haircuts. "On some level it's such a measure of success to see your characters embodied by Barbie."

Of course the dolls wouldn't be complete without period accessories, including hats, overcoats and pearls, but will stay true to Barbie's image – established five decades ago – excluding cigarettes, ashtrays, martini glasses and cocktail shakers.

"Anybody who likes the show for its attention to detail will get that from the dolls," Weiner promised, reports Popeater.com .

And while there have been other Barbie and Ken dolls replicating other TV series' characters, including "I Love Lucy" and "The X-Files," the manufacturer says this premium collectors' series will be the first licensed line for the special collection.

In July, between 7,000 to 10,000 dolls for each of the four "Mad Men" characters will be available in select stores, on amctv.com and barbiecollector.com .

According to The Huffington Post , the retail price of each doll will be $75 and for added kicks, there will be a Sterling Cooper Office Playhouse sold separately.
